My computer seems to be running very slow when I try to connect to the Internet - could this be because of my downloads? (As I've done so much)

It's more likely that during all your downloads you managed to pick up a virus I'm afraid. I can't be sure, but it's worth running a few scans to check.

A free anti-virus solution would be AVG anti-virus. You can find this ant-virus package from www.download.com and then do a quick search for "AVG 8.5 free" and it should come up.
