PJN Computer Solutions gets an RSS feed

28 September 2008

I have now created 2 RSS feeds which will keep subscribers updated with the latest news and articles I submit.

RSS feeds are written in a website language called XML and would usually contain frequently updated information.

XML files are also used when creating a sitemap for a website.

I decided to write an RSS feed for my website so that I could submit my latest news and articles to RSS websites to try and draw more traffic to my website.

When there is an RSS feed attached to a website you will usually see an orange icon with a few white curved lines on it. Clicking this icon will either show a list of the possible RSS feeds to pick from, or it will take you to the RSS feed if there's only one present.

Internet Explorer 7 has the RSS feed icon displayed just under the address bar on the right hand side (by default), unless the user has moved it. Or Fire Fox displays the RSS icon actually in the address bar on the very right hand side (by default).

Applications submitted to download sites

27 September 2008

I have now created a PAD file for my Tabbed Media Mania application.

A PAD file is written in XML and contains all the details about an application like the company, copyright, website link, file name, file size, and lots more.

The great thing about a PAD file is that when submitting applications you don't have to write out the details of the application every time - just this once and then you can submit to various places quickly and easily.

The site's I've currently submitted the Tabbed Media Mania application to are:

Freelancing for Acumen Business Law

19 September 2008

I am now maintaining the Acumen Business Law website as a freelancer.

Acumen Business Law is a law firm based in Sussex and they have just won the Brighton And Hove Business Award (BAHBA) 2008 for best new business.

I created a web banner for Acumen Business Law about 6 - 9 months ago, and then they called the other day asking if I could do any more work for them.

Initially I created a web banner of there employees (which you can view in my web banner portfolio) and then carried out some other website updates for them.

Take a look at the site at www.acumenbusinesslaw.co.uk and let me know what you think.

Custom Slide Show application built

6 September 2008

I have just built a new application for download called Custom Slide Show.

Custom Slide Show is a simple application that will display a slide show of every supported image file in a selected folder.

The user can select the folder and the time in seconds to display each image.

Once started the slide show will animate to full size and will display each image in the folder, then at the end of the file list it will loop round the folder and display them all again.

The application was initially built so that my contact details on download.com, cnet.com and upload.com would all be updated.

When I first signed up for download.com, cnet.com and upload.com I was using an old website and so all listings linked to my old website which is now no longer in use.

In order for the website to display my new website I was told I needed to add a new application and so I did.

You can download the application from www.download.com. Please let me know any thoughts or comments.

BBS IT Associates website goes live

3 September 2008

The website bbsitassociates.com has just been made live.

The BBS IT Associates website was originally setup by the client using an online Content Management System website called Mr Site.

Using a Mr Site template made the website look very plain and the client wanted a more professional and neater looking website.

After creating the website for BBS IT Associates I needed to FTP (File Transfer Protocol) into the Mr Site web server and upload the website manually.

Please view the website at www.bbsitassociates.com and let me know any thoughts and comments.
